Imagine...

As an author, I like to write teasers as a way to invite readers to engage with my writing, much the same way a movie teaser does, it connects you to the content and urges you to learn more. I made a series of teasers for my werewolf saga when Book I (Stricken) was released and as the release of Book II readily approaches, I am spurred once again by excitement to share what is to come and release more teasers for you to enjoy. So, here it is, the first promo for Mongrel - The Browning Werewolves - Book II. I hope you are tempted enough to keep coming back and I truly hope you enjoy the content!

Imagine…

You are going about your business, day to day, never once assuming the worst. You have a good life, one that includes a family, a career, and good times with good friends. You also have a past. One that is trite with controversy, intrigue, and even bloodshed. But because you have long since put it behind you and moved onward from it you never once think it can come back to haunt you. Imagine…you are wrong.

In the dead of night you are awoken suddenly, abruptly, by screaming. Screaming from the one you love plagued by nightmares from a time long since over. Troubled, you wake the one lying next to you and offer comfort. Once all is calm again and wanting to shield your new family from any past pain resurfaced, you resolutely rise from bed and get dressed. It is time to put an end to this scourge forever because you cannot go on like this – you cannot allow your family to suffer.

You get in your car and drive to a place that vaults those evil past doings from a time long gone. It is abandoned, has been for years, but strangely you find your three closest friends waiting for you there. It would appear that, prompted by similar nightmares they were drawn to the same location, the old psychic bond that binds you all still working like clockwork. You exit your car and join them in the driveway - no words need be spoken, you each know why the other is there. Straightaway you all notice there is one man missing, the one that warrants this midnight reunion at this dark foreboding place, the star of your nightmares. The one who brings the danger, the one whom you all feared would one day return and draw you all back to this supernatural place, the one whom would bring the bloodshed, the violence, and the destruction again.

Before you can resolve to leave this place of trauma and superhuman horror the thing you all dreaded most is there. Arriving by black horse like some great harbinger of death he rolls to a stop and steps out under the moonlight. In all his glory this sponsor of damnation has returned to reclaim you and there is a shock wave of terror that rolls through all of your connected spirits. You exchange a stare with your awestruck brothers as you turn silently to the sinister grinning bastard who summoned you there and you know without a word being spoken that the life you know is now over. Recall comes rushing in as you watch the black devil light a cigarette and casually throw on his leather jacket, blood covering his shirt and knuckles. His own fears non-existent, he stares back for a long minute, assessing his grudging comrades and wipes the blood that is not his own from his face and neck, as your pounding heart sinks and your blood chills. Then without losing his wit and with a sardonic grin to follow, the man’s indifferent, derisive greeting befalls you…

“What? Nobody’s happy to see me?”
