Hi, I'm Lysa...

LMBarrett-Scealf.jpg

So nice to meet you!

I am a published author of both fiction and nonfiction, though fiction is my primary medium. Speculative fiction and horror are my preferred genres, alternating within the realms of the paranormal, supernatural, and mythological. You can read some of my work by clicking on the subtab below the BIO tab above.

I hold a bachelor's degree in Creative Writing with a minor in Anthropology and recently completed the master's program at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga after successfully defending my thesis, "Narrative on the Level of the Line/Ambergris," published on UTC Scholar and ProQuest. I was blessed to be Managing Editor of UTC's online literary journal, Signal Mountain Review from Spring 2020 to Spring 2022. Beyond writing and editing, I research, and being a researcher, I frequently get involved with grant projects. In the Summer of 2019, I was awarded a Research Fellowship opportunity where I began a project on The Therapeutic Importance of Compassionate Care in medicine. I presented at SoCon at the fourth annual SURF conference in Spartanburg, SC, and at the 2019 REU Symposium. Information on this research is currently available through UTC Scholar; accessible here: https://scholar.utc.edu/research-dialogues/2020/day1_posters/155/

The abstract is published on Humanities Commons CORE!http://dx.doi.org/10.17613/33k2-nj52

When I am not busy editing, researching, or publishing. I am with my family and pets traveling or watching movies or cooking, creating new artwork or crafting, or working hard as a scholar. I love napping with my cat, tinkering with my car, I am prone to kissing toads, and I always enjoy opening a new book and becoming part of its world. To this, all I can add is thank you for reading my stories and becoming a part of the worlds I have created. I look forward to meeting you there!
